Annual Dividends: Sharing in Our Collective Success
One of the most significant advantages of being a member-owner at PECU Credit Union is the opportunity to share in our financial success through annual dividends. Unlike commercial banks that distribute profits to external stockholders, our surplus is returned to the members who save and borrow with us. Each year, based on our annual performance, the Board of Directors proposes a dividend for approval by the membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
This cooperative principle ensures that our success is your success. Your loyalty and participation directly contribute to the financial health of the Credit Union, which in turn leads to a rewarding return on your shares.
Unlike traditional banks, our profits don’t go to external stockholders. They come back to you, our members, as a thank you for your loyalty and participation.
How Dividends Work at PECU
Based on Performance: The dividend rate is determined by the net surplus generated during the financial year. Over the years, PECU has consistently paid dividends to its members, with recent rates including 4.5% (FY 2023), 3% (FY 2024), and a proposed 4% (FY 2025).
Credited to Your Account: Upon approval at the AGM, the dividend is paid on the average monthly share balance held by each member for the financial year.
Reinvested for Growth: To help you build your savings faster, it is typically resolved that 50% of your dividend is credited to your savings account and 50% is deposited back into your shares, compounding your ownership stake for the future.
More Than Just a Payout: Dividends are a tangible demonstration of our commitment to the cooperative principle of “member economic participation.” It is a core part of who we are and reinforces our dedication to your financial well-being.
